No one likes surveys. While it is helpful to the organization, it’s tedious for the supporters. Even with cash prizes to tempt people to to fill out a form, very few will take the time. 

If you want to understand your donors’ motivations more, we recommend asking them 3 simple questions:

  1. Why did you begin supporting our organization?
  2. Why is this important to you?
  3. How would you encourage someone else to support our organization?

Engage with your donor personally and make them feel like they are an important voice to helping your organization. Answering a quick, personal email (or even a phone call!) is much easier than filling out a multi-page survey. It gives a new way to interact with your donor, appreciate their insight, and get a better understanding of encouraging them and others to support your mission.
